Part 1: Covenant

Aug 9, 2026    Pastor Ken Loss

Marriage was never meant to be just a contract based on feelings—it is a covenant designed by God to reflect the relationship between Christ and His Church. In a biblical marriage, both husband and wife willingly submit to God's design, choosing to love, honor, and serve one another out of reverence for Christ.

A healthy covenant marriage is built on three essential commitments:

Mutual Commitment – A lasting marriage begins with daily obedience to God's Word. Marriage isn't sustained by emotions alone but by two people continually choosing faithfulness to God and to one another.

Selfless Sacrifice – Husbands are called to love their wives with the same sacrificial love Christ demonstrated for the Church, while wives are called to respond with respect. Biblical love always puts the other person's needs before our own.

Spiritual Formation – God's purpose for marriage extends beyond happiness; He uses it to make us more like Christ. As spouses encourage one another in God's Word, prayer, and faith, marriage becomes a place where both people grow in holiness and reflect Jesus more clearly.

Big Takeaway

Marriage isn't about finding the perfect person—it's about two imperfect people faithfully honoring their covenant with God and one another, allowing Him to shape them into the image of Christ.
